Besides, in some of the villages, Pakhtoon settlers also reside and in close contests, their votes played a significant role.
Historically, the area remained a battleground between the PPP and PML-N until 2002 when for the first time the PML-Q emerged victorious. As the major portion of present NA-129 was carved out from previous NA-100, major winners from the area include Malik Meraj Khalid (PPP, 1988), Ashiq Dayal (IJI, 1990), Khalid Javed Ghurki (PPP, 1993), Ashiq Dayal (Independent, 1997).

The competition was observed between PML-N candidate Shahbaz Sharif NA-129 and PTI candidate Mansha Sindhu while PPP candidate Tariq Shabir Mayo was on third choice of the voters.
From a majority of voters’ point of view, Shahbaz as chief minister of Punjab delivered a lot and did a tremendous job during his tenure. The PML-N workers established dozens of political camps and their camp offices could be witnessed in almost every locality of the constituency.
Voters started coming to polling stations early in the morning and long queues were observed on all the polling stations until the end of the polling timings. There were many rural areas in the constituency and majority of clans had already announced their consent to vote for the PML-N. Ziaud Din, a merchant in Soa Asaal area, was of the view that he convinced his friends and relatives and they all came to cast their vote for Shahbaz. He said that earlier, they had voted for the PPP but this time they voted for the PML-N because it was the only party which could bring Pakistan out of energy crises.
