Most suitable Soil Investigation Method?

What is the most suitable soil investigation method for determining soil bearing capacity of existing piece of land. This piece of land needs to support heavily loaded cranes or trailer. Is Cone Penetration Test adequate for this purpose or we need to do soil boring. Appreciate your advice. Thanks.
