Most overrated animated movie...

Finding Nemo: It's a great movie, no doubt. But it resulted in the purchase and neglect of many clown fish. While most of the movie was funny, at some times there were annoying moments and the relationship with Nemo and his father Marlin was a little underdeveloped to support an entire movie. And don't get me wrong, I do really like Nemo and everything but sometimes it gets a little corny.

Lilo and Stitch is this big time. I guess it was okay, but I really didn't think that it was anything special. I still don't understand all the love that it gets.

Does this in anyway differ from a thread about something like, "animated films that you don't like as much as everybody else," or, "Who has an opinion that differs from the popular consensus," aside from the use of that obnoxious, peremptory word?

Coraline seems like an awful attempt to be edgy. I didn't like it at all, but everyone here seems to love it. I really don't get it.

I feel really bad for posting in an "Overrated" thread, but yeah, I have to agree, I didn't think Finding Nemo was that good at all. Just another lame CGI movie with some blatant tearjerking and annoying celebrity voices. It's everything Dreamworks gets bashed for, but since it's by Pixar people act like it's a masterpiece.

Also, Toy Story 2 wasn't really that good. Yeah, I said it. I haven't seen the third but judging from the second they should have stopped with one.

Incredibles was also not as good as it could have been and had a message I simply couldn't agree with.

Seriously, I don't like how the Internet likes to call everything overrated, but if any animation studio is deeply overrated by the Internet definition, it's Pixar.

I just thought the whole traping springfield in a giant dome was stupid it should have been as good as the first 8 seasons. the writers had loads of ideas to go on.also i agree with shawn hopkins toy story 2 was wasn't as good as the first i hope 3 is better.

And once again a TZ "overrated" thread proves that most people aren't quite sure they know what the word means. "Overrated" has nothing to do with whether or not you like the movie or if you think it sucks or not.

This thread is basically here for people to bag on movies they don't like very much. I thought we weren't doing this anymore?

Toy Story 3.

The movie was fun, it had heart and etc etc, you know, like How to Train Your Dragon or Lilo & Stitch (Both Chris Sanders movies, I know, I know), but every person who saw it acted like it was the best movie to have ever come out ever. And that it was the only movie to have ever had heart or emotion and is a masterpiece of all animation, or a masterpiece of media in general.

When really, it was just as good as How to Train Your Dragon or Lilo & Stitch, maybe a tad better, but it wasn't the most superior (animated) film to have come out.

And still even now, in the Box Office talkbacks, you'll still find a number of "Whew! Toy Story 3 is still getting numbers! You go, girl!" as if TS3 hasn't had enough spotlight. Even when the movie was a few weeks old and got bumped down a few spots, people crazed over the movie like how dare this NEW movie that came out claim the #1 spot and move Toy Story down.

I just hope people don't end up using Toy Story 3 as a constant comparison for the PERFECT ANIMATED FILM EVER when criticizing other animated films.

I agree with Shawn, Pixar can often times be very overrated, especially on the internet (Not with all their products, people don't even remember Up! or A Bugs Life anymore). I still like Pixar, their work, and I love Toy Story, but I also like other companies and think many of them have produced fine work that ends up getting crushed under Pixar's popularity boot simply because "it's Pixar!".

Worse yet, movies that do have heart and emotion to it end up getting compared to Pixar anyway like "It feels like a movie made by them!", it's not as if Pixar invented heart and emotion. Heck, they didn't even "invent" animated heartfilled movies, Disney was the first one out there to make that a name. Pixar should just get credit for jumpstarting CGI films (Which, ha ha, ironically many people are sick of), not creating good animated stories.

Echoing what a couple others have said, "overrated" doesn't mean it's an open invitation to say, "Yeah I hate this movie."
If it helps, I rewatched Nemo recently and didn't enjoy it as much as I used to. It still has memorable moments and well-directed scenes, but something about it felt "off". I'll have to think more about why that is. (although I'm not sure what "lame CGI" is supposed to mean; a film's animation style doesn't consititute whether it's good or bad) I'll bite. What didn't you like about Toy Story 2? You're not giving us much to go on here. And what message didn't you agree with in The Incredibles?

I do agree that Pixar, whose films get near-unanimously perfect scores on Rottentomatoes and elsewhere, is the very definition of overrated (and this is coming from a big fan of their work), but the amount of gushing from others shouldn't influence whether or not you enjoy the movies themselves. And that doesn't just go for Pixar movies; that goes for anything.

I tend to find the 'Shrek' overrated, and for setting a president that all animated films must be CGI, and be chock to the brim with dated pop culture references in order to succeed.

I also think Pixar is often over rated, but I don't think they do "everything Dreamworks gets bashed for." Finding Nemo has celebrity voices, but it ends about there (and they aren't huge celebrities like Will Smith). It doesn't have endless pop culture references, crude humor, hideous character design that resembles the voice actor's heads on animal bodies, pop music on the soundtrack, generic love interest scenes (there's no love interest after the five minute mark), etc.

The Lion King. I've seen it once or twice and I never even understood why it's Disney's best film to this very day. There were a few funny moments with Timon and Pumbaa, but that's it...

Oh, and I never cried during the film either. I heard people cried during the film at certain scenes and I never felt any emotion whatsoever. I'm serious.

Cars seemed mediocre to me. I can't put my finger on exactly why I didn't think it was awesome but I felt it lacked something that made the other Pixar movies great.

On the topic of Pixar being overrated, i will only say this; at least Wall-e deserved all the acclaim it got, IMO. It's one of the best movies i have ever seen.

Finding Nemo however... i thought it was pretty mediocre.
