In the past month, I test rode aluminum and carbon bikes at 5 different bike shops. They were all too stiff. The bikes were too rigid and did not have smooth contact with the road. The jarring lifted me off the saddle.
I am a fairly light guy (~140 lbs). I enjoy riding solo centuries, and I don't sprint or climb that much. I don't mind flexy bikes. A little chain rub is the worst that can happen.
Typical bike store comfort road bikes like the trek pilot or cannondale synapse don't work for me because the top tube is too short and the head tube is too high. I'm a gymnast with a long torso. With my flexibility, I'm more comfortable with a racing/time trial posture even for long rides.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Any personal experiences with specific models (Calfee?, Bianchi?)? Older 90s bikes are fine too (Vitus?).
