morphine pump

Hi, i have a medtronic pump put in after 7 yrs. Of constant pain. I have had 12 intrathecal injections, until the space became to small. Then i had several diffrent kinds of opiods, till i could not think straight anymore. i have been passed around to 9 diffrent drs. until i got a dr. who was up on all the current medical stuff. my question is , will i need more morphine as time go"s , and will i ever be able to stop ?

there are a few different types of actual intrathecally delivered meds that are possible to use that could be options if the morphine decides not to work well anymore. there is no real ceiling affect on true opiates like morphine and oxycodone and some others. tho anything containing tylenol has its own limitations just becasue of that aspect alone(but that is not how your particular delivery syustem currently is). you could actually go up on the MS quite a ways as some level of tolerance would just naturally kick in over time. but like i mentioned, there are also other options you can try too.

i would highly suggest that you pop into the pain boards here on this site(just a scroll on down into the "P" section here). there are people there who are on the pump and some who have been on it for quite some time too. i really do think they would be extremely helpful for you to just chat with about this issue. thewre is also some really great support there too for all of us chronic pain patients who have to live with this crap. but do drop in down there, trust me, you will be welcomed there. good luck,FB
