More than a rant than a question about baby registry?

What is the point??? I spent SO MUCH time doing research on picking the best items for my little one on the way. Only to discover at the baby shower that I got CLOTHES. I don't need clothes!!! I've got hand-me-downs to least eons! And the best part? No receipts...I don't even know where the clothes came from *sigh*

I am grateful and blessed for all the love and support. But what is it about registries that people JUST DON'T GET?!?! Anyone else with stories to make me feel better........or just giggle? THANK YOU! :)
This is my first child and EVERY baby shower I've ever been to....I've always bought either the monitor or humidifier or diaper bag w/ assorted items.

I know FOR THEM it's more fun to buy clothes........but isn't the point of a gift SELFLESS? Just making a point here.

And I am very grateful at people's generosity and do understand that a registry is a "suggestion." However....experienced mom's should know how to help a sister out.

BTW........this is meant to be a fun rant. Don't take things so seriously.

To the rest of you. THANKS FOR MAKING ME SMILE!

Ugh. I hate when people don't give gift receipts. I'm sorry you got so many clothes-- I hear you on the hand me downs, I have a ton too and was glad that I didn't receive too many clothes at my shower. And most of the clothes I did get were in a 3-6 month or 6-9 month size-- moms who KNEW that 0-3 month clothes might not fit for very long!
No funny stories here, sorry, just sympathy. ;)

ha i totally understand. i spend like 4 hours or so in babiesrus picking out everything i wanted, only to find i got bags and bags of clothes. of course the clothes are absolutely adorable but most of them are in size 0-3 months and shes never going to be able to wear them all. and i got NO GIFT RECIPTS either. when i went to my cousins baby shower she told me iwas the only person who got her anything off her registry. everything else was something someone else wanted to get her.
