Monster 696 vs. Hypermotard 1100

Well I have had my 1098s for about 2 months now and am looking for something a little more tame just to have a little bit of fun on and carry my girl on the back comfortably. Now I know that they are apples and oranges but basically I am looking to see which would be the better bike. I am not too worried about power since I have the 1098 but just looking for comfort. Price in mind as well as I could use the difference which is about 4k to put mods on the monster where the 1100 would remain mostly stock.

Funny, I am in the same boat. I have the 848 but am selling all my Jap bikes to get an everyday Duc. What about waiting for the 1100 Monster. Will that be available soon?

The thing with that is if I want the power, I have the 1098 available. Hence why I don't need it.

i say the monster will be more comfortable and economical (MSRP and MPG) compared to the motard. looks is not big of a difference as well.
you're right with the extra $4k you can add a lot to the 696.

My girlfriend did not like the seat on my Foggy. She said that with the angle of the seat, it made her feel like she was falling off. That is an '02 bike and I have not seen the new ones, they may have changed the seat some. Might I recomend that you take your lady with you to the dealer for a test sit and a test drive to see if she likes it. Mine really likes the SS and was quite upset at me when I wrecked the "family" bike at the track.

The new monster has an upward sloping seat instead of a downward one like the older bikes.

The motard is a bit of a wheelie machine from what I understand, its definitely different. Since its just to poke around on I would probably go with the cheaper one.

If you have to do a Duc, the 696 is going to be far more useful on a day to day basis. The motard is a great fun ride, but is a bit limited IMHO as far as what you can do on it. If you really really want something she will ride on with you though, consider something other than a Duc. What about a Triumph Tiger or maybe a used Ducati ST4/ST3? Also could consider a BMW machine like an 1100GS. My wife really has never liked riding a back seat of a Duc.....most of the reason why she is getting a 696 of her own....
