Monster 696 vs. 1100?

I've been away from riding for over 5 years and recently purchased the Monster 696. Now that I am pushing a 1000 miles on it I am wondering what if I would have gotten the 1100. Can anyone compare the differences I would notice going from the 696 to the 1100? I am sure everyone gets this feeling once they're on a new bike for awhile and see the "next big thing". I need to go check one out for a future purchase. Thanks!

Welcome aboard SMR!! I cannot give you any insight on the Monsters but I figured I would welcome the newest Floridian to the forum.
BTW, how was the Panama City Bike Week this year?? Are they planning on another one next year?? I am hoping to get up that way next year!!

My advice? You already took the depreciation hit. RIde your Monster for about another 1000 miles, maybe do a track day if that might be something you want to explore. Then consider moving up and test ride the Street Fighter if you want to stay in the Ducati family and with a naked bike.

Thanks Bossman! Actually new to Florida as well. Finished my training in Houston, TX and here I am. I've always had my eye on Ducati and thought the 696 would be a good start. I rode next to a 1098 a week ago and see myself on something similar in the future. There was a tremendous turnout for Thunderbeach. Mostly the Harley crowd but nonetheless, I am looking forward to participating. If you're ever up this way you'll have to look me up.

Karl, I see the Monster staying in the garage for a long time. Actually starting to commute with it this week. I hit the highway last weekend and put 400 miles on it and it was very smooth. However, I see myself "growing" into something with more power in the future. The streetfighter is an attractive bike as well as the 1100. I am just sitting here thinking about the ride moving from a 696 to a 1100 or even a 1098/1198. Now that I have the time, I would love to attend some track days. Once I gain more confidence/experience I will look into it.

Best thing about keeping a bike and not trading it in or selling it? It's worth every penny you paid for it.

I rode a monster around town while my 1098 was getting serviced, it was a great bike for that. I had a ball, a monster's ball

Big difference between the two,you might be looking for more power eventually, but for the daily commute the 696 is perfect! 1100 you get more engine ,and the suspension is a bit better up front.I would ride it for maybe another 6mos or so and upgrade to an 1100 or streetfighter:-)
