Monaco Sidekick 3 Charger Dock Problem?

I just bought a Monaco charger for my (broken) SK3, the main function of the charger is to charge a spare battery. After reading a number of review sites they all seem to say that once plugged in and the battery put into place the LED at the front should turn red. but it just stays green. The battery doesn't seem to charge either, even after hours of charging. any help would be appreciated ^^
