I recently bought a bike seat to put on the back of a bike but I'm really nervous about taking my son on our first bike ride. I'm afraid I won't be able to balance and I can just picture us both tumbling to the ground
:( I'm going to buy him a helmet and kneepads just to be safe! Do you mommies have any tips for our first bike ride journey?

I have the same kind of thing you bought, and my son is 18 months old and "begs" to go for a ride. He LOVES IT!! I was worried to since it has been so long since I rode a bike, probably 15 years. But I got the hang of it again really fast. Just try and practice without your little a few times, and like the old saying goes, you'll have it in no time. Balancing with your son on the back is no different than if he weren't there. Just be sure you can reach the ground while stopped, and you'll be fine.

It is different - the weight distribution makes the bike feel very odd at first. Why don't you put a rucksack of books that weigh about the same as your child in the seat and ride it around a bit to get used to it before you try with him in there?

And don't just buy him a helmet, buy yourself one too. He's far less likely to make a fuss about wearing it if it's just something everyone does when they go on a bike.

My husband and I talk about wanting to get one of these but I also have mini fears. I've also seen those attachments that go on the back of the bike that seem really cool. The kids almost lay down in it?

I'd be wearing serious protective armor. LOL. I wish you the best. My biggest fear is tipping over :)

My little girl went in a bike seat on the back of my bike from around 8-9 monthsd old. We got her a helmet. She loved it!! No problems at all. Just strap them in!!!

I do! If you can, wheel him to where there's no traffic for your first ride - it's a bit unnerving at first to have a weight at the back of your bike and you'll need some space away from traffic to get used it. Especially hand signals!

Have fun - he's going to LOVE it!
