hi i have a 3ft tank set up with sand and live plants and have 5 mollies but want to breed them i was wondering if it would be a good idea to take the sand out an leave it bare bottom???

I hope you have one male and four females, you're going to get more chances of breeding and less chances of aggression by doing that.

It's a bad idea to take the substrate out. Mollies breed fine with substrate, plus the substrate keeps in the beneficial bacteria, don't mess with it.

I've just started breeding mollies myself but my friend has been doing it for a long time and explained to me in detail how to go about it.

It would be a good idea to leave rocks at the bottom of your tank for fry to hide in, that is, unless you plan on using an isolation box to keep them safe. I'm not sure sand would work as well as rocks which offer cracks in between for safe hiding places.

I would leave the sand in there and get an isolation net to keep your babies safe in.

Hope I helped c:

yup, keep the sand They will do fine with it. if you can, put some like very small cavelike things or decor with small crevices and stuff, because the more places the babies can hide, the better! also, if you have like 2 males and 3 females or even 1 male and 4 females, then your chances of having babies are way better.
