Modified Mustang Seat

I was going to post this a while back and forgot about it. I have the Mustang touring seat and it was giving me some pain in the tailbone area. The stock seat gave me the same pain which is why I bought the Mustang to begin with. Here are a couple of photos of what I did, just in case anyone might be interested. The hardest part was taking the first plunge and chopping a $300 seat.

The Mustang cover is held on with 1/8" rivets, I drilled the heads off with a 1/8" bit and pulled the cover back. The body of the rivets were pulled out of the seat chassis after the cover was pulled back.

I removed a wedge section from the lumbar are and slightly into the seat bottom. You can see the area outlined in the photo.

While I was in there, I decided to cut 1/2" to 3/4" off the lumbar to move me back a little. Most people with a Mustang seat will tell you they make you feel like you are pushed up on the tank. After trimming, I used a sanding disk on the grinder and smoothed everything out. The photo shows me about 1/2 way done, I took a step approach due to being nervous about butchering the seat.

Pulled the cover back over and put rivets back in the same holes. I did all of this the day before leaving for Sturgis. I rode three days there, four days around Sturgis, and three days home. No pain in the tail bone area at all, at the end of a 10 hour day my butt was tired but I believe that would happen with any seat. After re-installing the seat cover it was a little lumpy for the first day, but now it has reformed to the seat shape and you cannot even tell it was removed.
