Modem for Tungsten T5

Hello,
My company has users that Sync their palms for proprietary application through a POTS (Plain old telephone system) line. This has worked great for the palms we have had in the past (i.e. m500 and T3). Now that I can not get a T3 through my local service vendor due to its discontinuation, I have looked to the Tungsten C and the Tungsten T5 for functionality.

Issues with the Tungsten C. -->
The Tungsten C has the Universal connector with works with the P10821U palm modem. The issue is that there is not a way to Hotsync through a modem via the Hotsync interface. The only options are Local and Network in Hotsync interface.

Issues with the Tungsten T5. -->
The Tungsten T5 has the ability to sync through a modem via Hotsync interface. However, the Tungsten T5 does not have a hardware modem nor the Universal Connector that is available at this time. If there is a different modem for the T5 available, I have not located it.

So here is the basic root of my issue.

The Tungsten C has the hardware compatibility but not the software.

The Tungsten T5 has the software compatibility, but not he hardware.

What is the best course of action in this situation? :confused: :confused:
 
I use an IR (wireless) modem with my T3 (and previous) PDA. You might want to go that route.

Also have you looked at Bluetooth Modem as an option?

Finally there are now serial cables for T5, but they're pricey.

Shouldn't have problems Hotsyncing, But as I don't do that I don't know for sure.

I would rathur use serial cable so there is physical connection. I looked on Palm store and was unable to find cable for a T5 with a serial port. I also looked in a Bluetooth modem and that might work as well.

What do think is the best way to go for reliblity?
 
Both IR and cable have problems, as they both disconnect when bumped. So, IMHO, the BT modem would be more reliable.

Serial cables for T5 are third party items. You can find them @ PN Technologies and click on Treo/Visor Data Cables Catalog on the left side. Cost is $65 (plus S&H?).
 
So with these cables one could plug into an external U.S. Robotics modem and dial out from there. Is that correct?

Another Random question, Is it possible to connect a Palm directly to a network?
 
I assume these cables would work connecting T5 to modem, but have not used personally.

Why not use Wi-Fi to connect to network. Again the wired way is a pain, and there's NO hardware for T5 that allows it (at this time).
 
I think so, but have not done this myself. The most important thing is to set the PC to (hot)sync with to a fixed IP number, so PDA can locate it on the network.
