I was wondering if anyone would know why i am missing TLC HD. I tried the reset and the hit from a customer service agent. but no go. The thing i think is weird is that TLC HD is not red like i dont have the programming it is just not there. I thought maybe it was removed or could it be something with my 9200 only do mpeg2. any help would be great thanks

As there are NO channels broadcast using MPEG4 yet, that is most certaintainly not your problem.

Obvious question, do you subscribe to it.?

Yes i subscribe to it as i get it in SD but even if i didnt shouldn't it stil show up but just in red

Maybe i will have to call and actually talk to someone. (hate that)

but thanks anyway

I get TLC in SD but not HD, I do not believe i subscribe to it beause i am on an older programming package.

Just becasue you do not subscribe to a channel does not mean it will show up in the Guide when you choose "All Channels". Bells version of "All Channels" in not really all of them......lol

I thought all the new HD channels were going into the HD Themes packages only, and those subscribers still on the old packages would have to subscribe to the appropriate HD Theme to receive them?

Someone here explained that unsubscribed channels that show up in RED are the ones you can add using that Interactive Channel. Others that don't show up at all often require some sort of package change first. I can't confirm that, but it would make some sense.

That is why I just accept the channels I get. Calling and asking about TLCHD, might just end up with my package changing and my bill going up because lets face it, it never goes down after changing programming.

That's a little too general a statement although I can understand your sentiment. I've just recently dropped my programming cost from about $72 to $68 by getting rid of one SD theme that I never watched. So it is possible to go down.

Don't be so cynical, pinza. ;)

If someone subscribes to the older HD package for $10, they can get the same channels as the 4 HD theme pack for the same price. This would give them a couple of extra channels, but not TLC, Showcase, and National Geographic HD. If they want to get those, the 5th theme (More HD Variety) would cost $5 more.

Not a Sports fan? Then the cost would remain the same $10 for 4 HD themes. One theme would be More HD Sports, but it's less expensive than 3 HD themes.

Pinza is right. Unless you really want to change from the old $10 HD package to the new HD Themes, don't even bring it up with a Bell CSR. Before you know it they will have you switched, then not be able to revert it back to the old package.

-Mike

What would be the point of reverting back, though? The older packages contain less HD programming. As I said, you can get the same programming plus a little more, with 4 HD themes, for the same $10. Then, if you want to get the More HD Theme, it's $5 more. If you're not into sports, then you can get just the 4 HD Themes without the HD Sports theme for the same price as the older package. This gives you more HD Channels, and the ability to see more as they come out.

I think your resistance to change may be due to sheer mistrust of Bell CSRs and the fear that Bell will alter or increase the price of the HD themes once you're on them. But if they're going to increase the price, you won't be protected by just having the old packaging. At least not for long.

As for being afraid to mention it to a CSR, come on. They have to confirm any changes they make with you. If they don't, it's considered fraud. If a CSR is going to commit fraud, he/she could just as easily add it to your account without even discussing it with you.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, and don't be afraid to say no.

Anyone who thinks they don't shuffle the channel packages to lure you out of a grandfathered package either has their head buried in the sand or is just towing the line.

Personally I already changed to the new Themes because all I'm interested in is HD. All I'm saying is that if you discuss switching with a CSR, he or she is very likely to make that change, even before you've decided that's what you want. Once they change it, their software won't let them change it back.

-Mike

Last time I checked, both of the HD Sports themes had a requirement that you also subscribe to a corresponding SD Sports channel or theme. Thus, there was no way to get 4 HD themes for just $10. It was misleading advertising. Has that changed?

It changed. You can get the More HD Sports package without subscribing to the corresponding SD themes/channels. That gives you 4 themes. If you're paying for 3 at $15 (plus $1 for HD US Timeshifting), call up and get it changed to 4 for $10 (including HD US Timeshifting).

I didn't say anything about Bell's strategy for updating the themes. All I said was people are paying the same amount of money for less channels on the older packaging. And, yes, they don't add new channels to the older packages because they're older packages. They want you to go to the newer package, of course. But that doesn't mean they still won't raise the price of the old packaging. If you think the old package is price protected, then you've got your head in the sand.;)

The agent needs your confirmation to make that switch. He/she may have it set up on their system, but they don't have to hit "OK", and they shouldn't, until they receive confirmation from you. If they do what you're saying, then they're acting fraudulently, and should be disciplined.

But that's another topic. ;)

So are you saying that I don't need to subscribe to Sportsnet or TSN in SD to be able to subscribe to them in HD? When did they change it?

No, I'm not. You still need the Sports 1 theme pack with TSN in order to get HD Sports.
When they moved Sportsnet to Sports 2, they also made it ok for people to get the HD More Sports theme without having to subscribe to any SD Sports theme.

To be even more clear, this means that people who don't care for sports, but want 4 HD themes, can now get More HD Sports, HD Variety, More HD Variety, and HD World for $10 without having to subscribe to any SD sports. If you have 3 HD themes, then call Bell TV and change to 4 HD themes. You'll save $5, possibly $6 if you're currently paying for the HD US Timeshifting.
