Would missing some channels and getting error 002 generally be the switch or a cable problem to the switch?

Please elaborate on the 002 Error. What else does it say.?

What results do you get when running a "Check Switch".?

Each of those LNBFs is pointing at a specific satellite. If you swap cables between the two LNBFs, signal degradation due to corroded exterior connectors (or even bad cable, unlikely though that might be) would show up as the reverse on your receiver - the low signal would now be on Sat 92 instead of 81. It's a quick test.

ok. I swapped out the sw44, i changed the lnb, i changed the power inserter, i switched both sets of cables (signal stayed exactly the same) and i cut down a nice branch off of my shade tree..............same thing. It must be the receiver. By the way i get a signal of about 90 on 91 and about 47-48 on 82. I've pointed, then repointed, then repointed again.

I too am experiencing Error Code 002 with this message "Your Satellite Signal is Temporarily Unavailable" . I have lost several channels notably the Weather Channel (505) and CNN (500). Bell claims a Dish problem because all 3 receivers are affected. I must note this is for Satellite 91 Transponder 11 and 12. All other transponders are working on both 91 & 82.

The check switch (switch 44) came back good on all recievers (9200,4700,3100) . I have rebooted and pulled the cards but to no avail. The Bell CSR tried to blame snow accumulation initially but this problem has been going on for about 3 weeks now. We just got snow this weekend in my neck of the woods (Hamilton, Ontario).

They now think it's an LNBF problem or an alignment issue. Depending on the receiver I'm getting high 80's to high 90's on my signal strength so I don't think it's an alignment problem. Again the CSR suggested I wait it out but when told it's a three week old problem offered up free service (normally $70.00) and booked a call. She also offered a $10.00 inconvenience refund.The info on the signal strength meter indicates 0 on the 4700 but 85 on the 9200 (with unlocked unknown satellite indication and a red bar).

I'll repost once it's resolved.

Run 1 straight wire from the LNB for 82 to the receiver. See what your signal strength can be maxed out at by positioning the dish.

k, bell is tell me it is the receiver, and they are shipping me out a new one on warranty.

If it is safe to access the dish, try switching the LNB's
I'm guessing that the 91 LNB is starting to fail
If the problem migrates over to the 82, then it could be that...
If its up on the roof, or the least bit dangerous, don't bother, its not worth falling off a ladder! (I did it yesterday at my neighbors, thankfully it was only a few feet!:eek:)
Good luck

I would still try what dosborne suggested as I am not convinced it is a receiver problem.

Bell TV was out today to investigate my error code 002 (see earlier post). The tech turned on the Tv and lo and behold there was channel 505 working as it should! All the receivers were working perfectly leaving the tech to theorize that a) The Dish was ice/snow encrusted. With yesterdays thaw it corrected itself b) The 9200 receiver is beginning to act up causing a backfeed that might be confusing the LNBF or SW44 c) My old 3100 receiver may be malfunctioning (see b).

He ruled out a LNBF problem because the receivers were getting all the subscibed channels, however he left the door open in case a reoccurance came back in colder weather. He also felt the SW44 was not faultering as you either lose everything with these types of failures or a port issue were 2 outlet ports work, 2 dont etc.

He could not explain why I was getting 0% signal strength on Transponder 11 when I was having my problem while the rest of the transponders were in the high 80's and 90's. Todays tests:

Signal Levels @91 Signal @ 82 (Overcast day)
T1 = 75% T1= 87%
T11= 80% T11= 90%
T32= 85% T32= 90%

Stay tuned...I'll repost if I have a reoccurance.

That sucks!
Of course you want your system to work flawlessly, but I bet you were hoping it was acting up when the tech came.....
It is really difficult to diagnose a trouble like yours, especially when it is working fine when the tech is there....

I still think it could be a sw44 issue, as a failure of one input (ie 82 -13V) could throw off the signal.
These sw44's are rather finicky when it comes to the length of copper connecting to the sw44 (they have to be a bit longer)
I had them flush with the connector, but it wasn't long enough, so I had to extend them about 1/4" so they were making contact when screwed on

This could be caused by a failing LNB, switch, connectors, etc....

Follow Up to error code 002.....I had Bell Techs out 3 more times to find root cause of transponders not receiving. I finally got a great tech who bravely ventured up onto the snow packed roof and confirmed both LNB's Dead.
My problems had steadily got worse to the point that I lost many transponders on both 82 & 91. The tech who solved it changed an old RG59 cable to a RG6 (On the power inserter line) , changed the LNBF's and replaced the power inserter. He speculated that the RG59 cable started to fail and caused insufficient power to drive the multiswitch (4x4) and cooked the LNBF's.
The other tech's basically did nothing. One suspected the LNB's but would not go on the roof, another thought it was one of my receivers but could not convince himself or me of this theory. All channels and transponders are back. I have 100% reception on sat 82 and low 90's on sat 91.

Side notes:
-Bell TV technical CSR's (Offshore) are bad. You had to demand service or none was offered. One had the gall to suggest I wait till the snow melts in a couple of days before calling back to book a tech visit. I told him it may be 6-8 weeks before the snow melts and I'm sure he thought I was lying. I almost pulled the plug on Bell but that would have been a mistake as Cable in my parts are poor and *C wants too much for their receivers.
- Last tech used a meter to diagnose and discover issues with my setup. Not all techs have these expensive meters or choose not to use them. This guy found the problems in minutes and confidently showed and explained his findings. If you have similar problems ask your tech to use the meter to test the switch and LNB's. If he doesnt your not getting an accurate diagnosis.

Well i used just the 82 cable straight through.......both of them. Yep the signal stayed the same. Receiver should be here in a few days.

i have a 6141 receiver and for the last couple of days out of all my hd channels, only a few will work. When you check the sat signal for 82, it is zero on most channels but only about 45-50 on the few that do work. I phoned bell................csr said she couldn't help me over the phone. So i climbed on the roof to repoint.............didn't work. I changed the lnbf or whatever it's called...............same thing. i'm all hooked up to am sw44 switch. Could it be the receiver or the switch? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Received the new receiver and well my signal is completely gone. Tried the straight through on both receivers, nothing. My only option now is pfff don't know. Will be cutting trees for the next few days.

Run a check switch (on the satellite signal screen) to see what it reports for your switch configuration. If that fails, I would try hooking up lines directly to your receiver until you find out which one(s) are not working. You may want to switch the cables on each LNB to see if the problem follows the cables or stays with the LNB. You need to eliminate one problem at a time until you find the cause.

Most likely a bad cable/connector, failed switch, or failed power inserter.

If the installation was within the last 90 days contact Bell for a free Service Call.

Well i finally got signal. I just moved the back into the place where it wouldn't work before........guess all the tree cutting worked. But...........always a but, i have a 6141, a 2700 and the newer standard receiver. When i was wanting to move my 6141 downstairs to where i have an extra cable for my theater room, i would lose signal to every receiver when i unhook it. I went to the standard receiver, same thing. I went to the 2700, the other 2 would still work. So i thought i could switch the standard and 6141 places, nope still no signal. These receivers will only get signal on these 2 cables in their original place. Keep in mind on the sw44, the cables are all in their original ins and outs. Have a spare sw44 and inserter..........same thing. It's almmost like these 2 receivers are drawing their power from each other or something. Any suggestions?
