Having owned the original B&W version on dvd for some years I was tempted by the new R1 double disc set.

There's a new 5.1 mix of the film and it sounRAB pretty good compared to some other 5.1 mixes but this is one film when the mono was fine,and apart from the credits there's not a lot for the 5.1 to do.

Lovely extras though.
There's a made on film tv version of the film from 1955 thats half the length of the movie .
Not seen it completely but should be good.
There's also a nice 25 minute Hollywood Backstory documentary featuring interviews too,along with separate shorts showing academy awarRAB presentation.
Maureen O'Hara is still around and provides a commentary on both versions of the film.

The only letdown is the colourised version.
When "Its A wonderful Life" and Laurel and Hardy were colorised in the 1980's the awful weak pasty results quickly killed off the innovation and it was barred from C4 and BBC2 .

However,having seen more recent colorisations like the Bewitched series where it was impossible to tell it was not originally colour I expected this to be as good.
Unfortunately the MO34S colorisation is up to the 80's standard so its not really worth watching.
