minimum kids age to ride

What do you guys think would be the apropriate age to ride a child? I have a 4 year old who loves the bike. I let him ride some on the road just in front of the house which is a very low traffic area. When would he be old enough to hit some road trips with me in your opinion?

I would say when he can fully rest his feet on the rear pegs and sit upright by himself. Mental age is more important than physical age also.

I'm sure you'll get alot of different answers on this one. I haven't taken my 10yr old out yet. He's only 65lbs. & I'm afraid he just isn't physically big enough yet. I want him to fill out the rear seat before I ride with him. It's a 100% safety issue with me. As soon as he's big enough we'll be doing lots of riding together.

I had taken my girls out for small (around the block) trips when they were 3 and 4.
I sat them in FRONT of me on the tank and did max 20mph.

Now that they're 12-18, they've gone on rides with me, although they haven't done the longer rides since they've gotta fight the Mrs.
