Minecraft Mysterious Noise?

I was beneath my base excavating when i heard a squeak noise, like the one on a scary movie at the scary parts, my difficulty is on peaceful and i'm not that far down which eliminates the possibillitys of:
skeletons, zombies, creepers, spiders and slimes. what does the noise mean?
