Military severance check question?

I am being medically seperated from the air force and my severance check is supposed to be around $13,000 but after taxes I am only walking away with $8,000. My question is, is there a way to get what was taken away with taxes, like when I file my yearly taxes or anything??

Not that I know of, but talk to a CPA when you file your taxes maybe they'll find some loop holes or exceptions in your case.

Like the above poster said, any "one-time" entitlement is taxed 25% for federal tax and anywhere from 0-9% for state tax.
I always imagine winning a game show or something because I'm like "ok, if I win a million bucks, I'd only get xxxxx bucks after taxes. Rip off."

We get screwed and there is no way to get it. they take 25% in Federal taxes and the state takes there part too. but you need to be more concerned bout how much your getting for disability.
