My bf is in the navy and I'm sending him my first package.what do I put in it? I know military food sucks so what kind of food do you love getting? I'd appreciate help from people with experience in the military or family members.thankyou :)

Well it all depends on where he's deployed to. If he's in the middle east, and you want to send snacks, make sure they are non perishable and do not send anything with pork in it...due to the Muslim religion, it's frowned upon.

I am a veteran care package sender and it all depends on what your boyfriend MISSES. Does he have a favorite comic book or magazine that he can't get over there or does he have a favorite author that just published a new book?

The food isn't as bad as most people think...the MRE's have come a long way since Vietnam!!

I'm not only a military brat but my current (and hopefully last) boyfriend is former Air Force. So I've sent a lot of care packages. I had a sibling that did a tour in Iraq and he told me that he did patrol in an area that had a lot of kids that didn't have many toys so I went to the dollar store and got a bunch of toys for him to give out. I've been known to send favorite flannel sheets and my famous Christmas cookies in the middle of May.

This care package is going to show your boyfriend that you care about him. Put little things in there that would remind him of you or times that you two had together before he deployed. Just don't send him anything he can't use like something of yours...it's a sweet thought but he doesn't have a lot of space to call his own.

And my last bit of advise is to include a handwritten letter to him with a little spritz of his favorite perfume that you wear!!!

Hope this helps!

The food in the Navy does not "suck", I can assure you; for example, we had steak and lobster once a month! The best I ate on any submarine or the USS Blue Ridge... Some ships have their own Ship's Store where items may be purchased so it would help to know what type of ship the BF is on since a minesweeper and a carrier are night and day, insofar as available shopping. Some are obviously bigger than others. For a general "care package" type mail out, find out what snacks he likes and send a bunch of those. I would recommend a lot of the big bags of sunflower seeds (if he likes), beef jerky, cigarettes or chew he smokes (and he can even sell those to his buddies at twice the cost if not esp. the Copenhagen), toothpaste/brush, magazines (I like Easy Rider, myself), shampoo, soap, etc. stuff like that. It sounds stupid but on long deployments, the Ship's Store can run out of these items and it helps to have the "creature comforts".
