Military benefits for retired widow.?

My mother in law had a letter recently which has been misplaced. In it, there was an indication that she may be eligible for gov't benefits because her husband was a retired military man from ww ll. This benefit was in the form of monthly pay to assit her in meeting her monthly obligations. Does anyone out there have any info on this subject?
