Mile time improvement suggestions?

I run the mile in Physical Education class almost every week now, sometimes the 2 mile... We have 12 minutes to complete running the mile, but we run on a very rugged, grassy track in the shape of an L. I just feel so unfit because some people get even 6...7 minute mile times, while I get 10 and 11 minute mile times... Plus ipods and phones and all that is out of the question...It's school. If anyone has any suggestions at all to help me out with this, please answer. Thanks <3
Plus, my legs hurt, and my throat hurts really bad when I run...
