I am 27. I had my last MRI around 3 years ago, which showed "mild disk protrusion at L5/S2 (I think S2 - Perhaps S1 - Sorry!!) I was told this was nothing to be concerned about and therefore did nothing. From time to time I experience severe pain in my hips, mostly in my left, with pain radiating down to my knees - within a day or so, it becomes obvious this pain has actually come from low in my spine. I do have problems sleeping due to this pain - I am unable to lay in one position for very long, as the pain in the hips becomes unbearable, and I also suffer from sciatica from time to time.

Is it likely that the disk is still of concern after this long? Is it likely that if so, these symptoms are indeed caused by this? Can this go away by itself, or worsen in time if not managed?

It sounRAB like it is coming from L5/s1 and I would recommend returning back to your doctor or family doctor for a complete work up. Hopefully it will include xrays and an updated MRI.

I agree that you need to go back and see a doctor. If the symptoms you have correlate to the findings on CT/MRI and hasn't gotten better in 3 years - then it won't get better on it's own. Make sure they do new testing. No good Orthorpedic Spine Surgeon or Neurosurgeon is going to rely on old tests (except to compary then to now).
