Mild abnormality in smear test - should i be worried?

I have just received a letter from the hospital informing me that I have mild dyskaryosis in my cells and that I should go back for another smear in 6 months time.

The thing is not only am I a natural worrier but I lost my auntie to cervical cancer 13 years ago and I am really panicky about it. She left two young sons behind and I do not want that fate for my son.

I suppose what I am really looking for are reassurances from anyone out there that has had these abnormalities.

Thank you.
Thank you guys I feel a bit more calmer now. Think it was just the shock of not expecting it. I do not have much faith in the hospital as they let my auntie down but have no choice to use it as it's the only 1 my doctors use.

Amy - thank you that article really helped to alleviate the shock!!

Haylee - it is fantastic to see that kids these days are taught so much about it. I left school 8 years ago and the only thing I knew about it was death through my auntie's experience.

my daughter is in her early 20's and goes through the same thing. us women have this happen quite often. what's important is to not let it go and keep having the check up. most women who die from these types of things don't go for regular check ups or follow ups. relax, although it's not normal, it is normal. i too have had this and mine is now normal. worrying puts undo stress on our system.
