Hey everyone we are currently looking at getting the mid level BEV PVR, I was wondering if it is going to be possible to hook up an external Hard drive to it to have more recording space? I now the HD ones have more space but we don't want the HD one just the mid level so I was curious if this would work or not. Thanks a million everyone

BEV has not enabled that option yet , they promised to do it this year but propably only with new HD receivers.

Look around for a 5200, it is a Dual Tuner SD PVR with 200 hour capacity. You would have to run a second line to it but hey it will allow you to record one show while watching another.

5200 are not sold by BEV anymore, meanning you would have to buy it from an existing client, or an ex client

I do not believe I ever implied that he should call Express Vu to buy a NEW one, now did I.?

I said to "look around" for a 5200, which implies exactly that.

Hey everyone thanks for the replies alright I just thought I would ask and see if it was possible. Thanks again guys

Never said you did Nimiq 1...I just added the info in case he didn't know to avoid him wasting time going to stores looking for it

I think at this stage it might even be worth looking for a used 9200 to use as a Dual Tuner SD PVR, they are getting dumped at reasonable prices so it might not be a daft as it sounds.

On the plus side, if and when, Express Vu decide to offer an Upgrade to owners of these machines you might just save a few $'s and if you are then ready to take the HDTV plunge at the same time it would have all been worth it.

I was in a Warehouse yesterday and they still have 50 x 5200's sat there, all new, never opened. They appear to have missed the Memo asking for them all to be returned....Too Funny.

Where was that? and how do I get one.

I've only got a SD TV right now and have no plans of upgrading. I currently have a SD PVR but often have conflicts with my wife about what should and shouldn't be recorded. Guess who loses that battle? ;)

Sorry but they all belong to Express Vu and they will have to be shipped back to them at some point. I just saw them on a shelf and asked the Warehouse guy why he had them and how many he had shipped out in the last year, he told me that it was very odd, no-one had taken any for well over a year, maybe even 18 months now....lol

I explained how they had been recalled, he was not aware. Chatting with his manager and a subsequent call to Express Vu, they had invoiced the Company for "loosing" them, they paid $828 EACH for them to Express Vu, as I left they were about to create a skid and ship them off to NESA (the company that deals with repairs etc for Ex Vu) and get a massive credit for them all. I got a free coffee out of the deal.....lol

Otherwise it will be E-Bay or Kijiji I guess for one. Although as I said earlier, the 9200's are getting cheaper and work fine as an SD Dual Tuner PVR.

For the record, the 5200 when new was exactly the same price as the 9200, so I think you know why I would say get one of those.....

Thanks for the info.

I was just hoping to get a dual tuner PVR on the cheap. I have uneasiness about buying expressvu receivers via ebay or kijii, just worried about getting screwed.

I guess I'll have to figure out how to get one of the HD dual tuners without signing up for a plan.

My experience with E-Bay has been pretty good on the whole. Kijiji, I have not used but as it is more of a local thing, you should be able to actually "see" the receiver before buying it.

Watch Best Buy/ Future Shop etc for deals on the 9200, they were going for $399 or lower I believe and taht is almost certainly a refurb but it has the same warranty as a new one.

I possibly have one for sale. Once i get the recordings off....i'll be switching to my new 9242....

R u still interested in getting a 5200?

Hey no I am not going to worry bout a 5200 I will just get the normal PVR now. Thanks though

What are you calling a "normal" PVR? A 5900? I saw a 5200 advertise on Kijiji Canada if you are interested

I am referring to normal as the mid level they have out now the 299 one. Not sure on the model number

That is indeed the 5900, Single Tuner PVR, whilst you describe it as a Mid Level, more acurately it is the Entry Level and always has been. It was preceded by the 5100 & 5800, which both had smaller Hard Drives.

At this exact moment Express Vu only do the 5900 SD PVR or the HD PVR's the 9200 & 9242.
