Xbox Live Gold members get to have all the fun. Microsoft today announced that its Games with Gold feature, which debuted over the summer as a limited program, will now become a permanent fixture.
The program launched during June's E3 expo as a thank you to Xbox Live Gold members, but received such a positive response that Redmond decided to extend it indefinitely.
"Today, as part of the 'Week of Xbox Live,' we're excited to announce that we are making Games with Gold an ongoing benefit for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360," the team wrote in a blog post.
Members receive two free Xbox 360 games each month, unveiled on the 1st and 16th, and made available to download for only a limited time. This month's titles included Might & Magic Clash of Heroes (Oct. 1-15) and Halo 3, available until Oct. 31. Both usually retail for $14.99.
"Whether they are blockbuster AAA or popular arcade titles, Games with Gold continues to offer a diverse mix of games," the blog said. "According to recent surveys, 97 percent of participating members have given their stamp of approval for Games with Gold, and we're excited to continue bringing you great games every month."
Keep an eye on the Xbox Wire and Major Nelson blogs for new Games with Gold titles announced twice a month.
Those lucky Xbox 360 players who snagged a gratis Xbox Live Gold membership during an early October promotion can continue to reap the free benefits. Everyone else, however, must pony up the $60 annual subscription fee to subscribe to the newly extended Games with Gold.
Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold membership brings users online to play Kinect- and controller-based games with friends and instantly watch TV and movies. Subscribers also get exclusive discounts on content, plus early access to games, demos, movies, and other entertainment.
