anyone know how much this cost? my derm quoted me 2200 not including the 400 fees to have the room and stuff...is it really that much to have it professionally done??

I've been getting microdermasions done for many years. When I was living in L.A. I paid $150 per treatment. I recently moved to Arizona where things are a little cheaper - I now pay $110 per treatment. I really love them, and my skin feels great afterwarRAB, but they don't help with acne. The nurse who was doing my microderms recently suggested I try a Salicylic Acid peel. I have two done so far, and it works much better. It's half the price, too. :)

thanks, im just about done with accutane, have a week and a half left on that, then i wanna start thinking about microderm when its safe to do so. my skin isnt that smooth and i do have some small pits, i just want smooth, even skin!!

One thing I can tell you about microdermabrasion is that it doesn't produce dramatic results. It removes the top layer of dead skin cells, and leaves you feeling refreshed. The skin feels very smooth and soft after having the flaky dead skin removed, but doesn't do anything to lessen scarring or smooth out pits (at least it hasn't on me).

That said, the instrument that is used can be adjusted, so maybe using it at a stronger level might to the trick, but that's something that you'd want to talk to a professional about. I would definitely get a few opinions before spending the money, as you may need something stronger for the pits. I use the microdermabrasion more as an anti-aging treatment and general complexion booster (I'm 48 and still suffer from severe acne.) For my acne, only chemical peels seem to do anything. But that's just me. Everyone's skin is different.

thanks, i was going to look around today at other options, so hopefully i find something!!

I had read some place where the person that got microderm was regrettful and that it did more damage to the skin than good. Please only go to a qualified person namely a board-certified derm or board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss options. I'd also read that some people that received laser treatment were not happy with the results. Perhaps a medium depth (tca) peel may help with exfoliation and renewal of skin cells. It's generally recommended to have the tca peel done by a board-certified derm and Not the blue peel which is said to not be as effective.

Absolutely. I get my microdermabrasions done by a registered nurse, who works within a plastic surgeon's office. There are a lot of beauty salons and so-called "skin spas" doing them now, and I've heard horror stories too about untrained people using the equipment. It's your face. Go to a pro!
