Micro SIM adapter in 5800 or N97 Mini?

I just moved from an N97 Mini to an iPhone 4. I would like to retain the N97 Mini or my other Symbian device, a 5800 XpressMusic, as backup phones. To do this I will have to get a micro SIM adapter so I can use the new micro SIM from my iPhone.

I see the N8 user manual says do not use micro SIM adapters in the N8 or the SIM will be electrically damaged (not just physically). I'm not sure how that would even happen, but does anyone know if the same thing will happen in the N97 Mini and 5800? In both phones the SIM slots seem to be flat enough that the micro SIM won't pop out of the adapter and jam while it's inserted. I think, anyway.

I'd sure like to use my micro SIM in my Nokia phones, and not just save them for prepaid SIMs and overseas trips.

Thanks.

I don't have any experience with the micro sim adapters, but I did use one of the dual sim adapters for awhile. Basically it was an adapter that allowed two sims, cut to the size of a micro sim, to be used in a normal sim slot. I didnt experience any damage to either sim. But, I did notice that battery life took a pretty big hit. I don't recall the exact numbers, but after testing with Nokia Energy Profiler, I was using twice the battery power. This was with my N82 and maybe the E71. Even though both sims were not active (you had to switch between sim cards to make or receive calls on that number) it was still drawing extra power. I stopped using the adapter and just went to manually switching sim cards.

Just something to keep in mind, if you notice a drop in battery life with a sim adapter.

Thanks. I'll watch for that. I'll also sit here scratching my head wondering how that phenomenon would even happen if the SIM slot only has contacts for one set of pads.

Just a follow up and a warning.

My micro SIM adapter is working great. I was switching between iPhone, N97 Mini and 5800 at will. At least I was doing that until yesterday. Then I thought, since the micro SIM adapter is laying around loose when I'm on the iPhone, and likely to get lost or broken, I would just slip it into my N97 Mini without a micro SIM card in it, as a way to store it.

I knew I was in trouble when I slid the SIM holder, complete with micro SIM adapter but no micro SIM, into the phone and heard click, click, click. It was the wipers that normally contact the SIM clicking into the hole where there was now no SIM. Now my micro SIM adapter is stuck in the phone. Those little wipers are catching against the inside edge of the empty micro SIM adapter and stopping it from being extracted.

I have a few ideas on how to get it out, but I may be disassembling my phone. At least it's my spare and I'm still on the air with the iPhone.
