Metropolis.

Assuming you mean the Fritz Lang film. It's a black and white, silent film, made in Germany about 80 years ago. What were you expecting? Jar Jar Binks?

Well, soon you will be able to see an even longer version of it with some of the missing footage restored!

Somewhere there may be an even longer version than that knocking about!

Seriously, it is a very hard film to watch nowadays as the style of acting has changed so much-'flamboyant' would be a polite way to describe the windmilling gesticulating acting.

But the production design, particularly of the city itself and the robot Maria still have influence today-viz, Gotham as seen in Burton's Batman movies and Ralph McQuarrie's original designs for C-3PO.

Fair enough, but what were you expecting when you sat down to watch it, and why do you think it's dreadful?

As others have said, you have to watch it considering the time in which it was made, and the influence it has had on cinema since it came out.
