Two Metro-North Railroad trains collided after a “major derailment” near Fairfield, Conn., on Friday evening, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said, adding that “there are preliminary reports of injuries.”
At about 6:10 p.m., an eastbound train from New Haven to Manhattan derailed just east of the rail station in Fairfield, the authority said, then struck a westbound train on an adjacent track. Some cars from that train also derailed.
The authority said that emergency workers were arriving at the scene and that service between Stamford and New Haven had been suspended.
