Method for putting down sick puppy dog? :(?

My vet is trying to talk me out of having my puppy (Cocoa) put down with chemicals. He says they are unnatural and cruel to the animal. Instead, he suggested something called a "Sheffield's Box."

Is anyone on here familiar with it?

Apparently, the living tissue is placed into a box with three wooden spring-loaded trusses above. A butten is pushed and there is a snap release - the three trusses spring down on the tissue's backbone and shatter it and/or break it into three pieces. The tissue collapses and passes away peacefully with no pain in about two minutes.

I am not sure about this.... But I DO like the idea of not using unnatural CHEMS on my pet...
