Metal out there that really hits you...

The Berzerker are pretty good, I prefer there more death metally tracks (off of Dissimulate) to the gabba inspired stuff.

I've been loving Anaal nathrakh's new album Domine Non Es Dignus, its a large slab of very fast and intense Black metal.

see them live, you'll understand.
metal fan's should atleast be able to appreciate it. they have some really good breakdowns & some of the best vocal harmonizing since alice in chains.

Been listening to napalm deaths scum alot recently, its shocking to think that music this extreme existed back in the mid-80's, it makes alot of modern grind and death metal seem quite tame by comparison.

I have seen them live...they put on an AMAZING show. I love them to death and although the breakdowns aren't as hard as I'd like them to be, they fit the music perfectly. Extra points for having three guitarists.

yeah, the berzerker are fantastic. i wouldnt call it speed metal, it'd be industrial death, but it seems written more like carcass-school grind, so id call it industrial deathgrind maybe? i dunno. and the gabba stuff is from when the berzerker was just 1 guy, it's completely separate from the band they are now

As far as grindcore I'm currently listening to Carcass and Napalm Death. Some black metal I'm listening to is Satyricon, Catamenia, Armeggedon, Mayhem and Bathory. As far as death metal goes I'm listening to Cannibal Corpse, Macabre, Kataklysm, Deicide, Morbid Angel, and Vader. Moving on to doom metal, Acid King, Candlemass, Cathedral, Count Raven, Electric Wizard, My Dying Bride, Katatonia, Eyehategod, Thergothon, Sleep and Shape of Despair. For Viking/Folk metal I'm listening to Elvenking, Ensiferum, Falchenbach, Einherjer, Asatru, Otyg, and Vintersorg.

That basically covers what metal I'm into right now

Haha, its just because there don't seem to be many threaRAB in here about metal, and it looks like there are quite a few metalheaRAB around here (myself included). Viking metal is a well known and quite popular metal genre within the underground.

However it is very ironic that people have been listing some decent underground metal banRAB when your first post was about a terrible metalcore/mallcore band like Chimaira.

www.metal-archives.com is all you need if you wanna learn about some decent metal banRAB (though Chimaira are listed there for some unknown reason!).

Viking metal is basically black metal except that instead of singing about anti-christian themes they sing about mainly Norse mythology/ Norse religions. It's a very good genre and it is very diverse.

Try "In Flames". Talk like "slipknot" but they are really good when it comes to the guitar.

They really bring out the idea of "less talk more work". Like 20 secs of talk and like 2 minutes of guitaring.. pretty neat i'd say. Theres a 9 ALBUM download in suprnova.org

Old Man's Child
The Sins of Thy Beloved
Older Theater of Tragedy (their new stuff sucks!!)

I also like Amorphis - Black Winter Day
