Hi all you guys !...

I just got this 7" Android Tablet from eBay with the following info:

Model name: MID (M 70003)
the following is from the settings section "About Device":
Firmware Version: 1.6
Kernel version: 2.6.29-00236-g4f8dbbb-dirty ... (??!)
Build number: 1.7.2

The device seems to work ok but the thing is that it displays on the top left screen's corner in red color the phrase "Demo Purpose Only" ... (which drives me mad since it's in all screens ! ... everywhere, always on, no matter what screen I look at !) and I really need to get rid of it).

Does anyone know how can I do that ? ... i.e. could I flash again Android's previous version 1.5 (instead of the 1.7 it now has in) as it looks like something is going on with its "licenses validation", will this solve the problem or is there another much easier way ? Could I also upgrade to the latest Android versions beyond 2.0 ?

Many thanks in advance you guys !

I'm sorry to say but your Tablet sounds to me like it's almost certainly been stolen. Stores and salepeople get early versions of the latest versions of firmware in order to show off the hardware's features. They are also versions that are not very well tested, and often thrown together very quickly in an attempt to get the thing working at all so that they can be demoed at shows or to stores. This is why your firmware code has the word "dirty" in it, as it is known to not work cleanly.

These demonstration devices should never be sold on to the general public. The people who have access to them are likely to lose their jobs if they don't return them, so the most obvious explanation is that someone stole it from a demonstration, or found it in a suitcase they stole, and decided to sell it on eBay.

What is the seller's feedback like? Where did he say he got it from?

Unless you put the firmware on the tablet yourself?

Thank you very much guys. I see what you mean.

Well, these devices sell A LOT in eBay over the last 2-3 weeks from various eBay sellers with 99%+ feedbacks (mainly from Hong Kong) and they sell for less than $100 USD. I've sent you both by PM the link to that exact item where you can see its full details and also the seller's details, feedback, etc (I wouldn't like to post the link here as I'm still waiting for the seller to get back to me and answer all my questions, I hope you understand).

I'd really love to "root" this thing and re-flash it with another Android firmware but I'm not sure how to go about it and I wouldn't want to "brick" it (as I'm considering to return it for a full refund). I guess I'll have to start looking for instructions for a suitable tested Rom, etc and I haven't got a clue where to start (it has to be for the specific device I think right ?)

Without rooting, the only firmware you can install on the device is one that is specifically made to upgrade that device, in that location, from that version. I doubt there would ever be an official update to a demo firmware. The general public are never meant to have such a firmware on their device.

You may be able to root it and install a custom firmware, but unfortunately I know nothing about that device or what, if any, custom firmwares are available.

I have just bought one of these in nz off www.trademe.co.nz and have the same message. I am keen to hear what happened or what you did super android. I can't connect to my home network though which is why I bought this in the first place?

It picks up my home network but doesn't connect?
