Please pardon me if there is already a thread on this fantastic, fantastic band (I did use the search function).

Allmusic:

Last.FM:

I have heard nothing but good things about this band and obZen is one of my favorite recorRAB this year. They've gone great lengths to make some fantastic recorRAB, and I'm anxious to see them when they come stateside.

Anyone else like them?

Well, maybe. Although the vocals and drumming do have a lot of similarities, Gojira has this, say, organic feel to their music. Meshuggah is more of a machine, pounding their music and hatred on you. It's weirdly groovy and the drumming always gets me! Oh well, I wouldn't force myself either if i didn't like it.

It's quite possible, but I still enjoy them.

Allmusic didn't rate a single album of theirs under four stars, and they're usually a pretty good index of impartiality.

Can you explain yourself at least just a little bit? Like I said before, the lack of "chugga chugga" riffing doesn't matter whatsoever. Metalcore can do without it. And what happened to Trivium, are they still this so called "nu thrash" or what?

A good majority of MetalheaRAB just listen to what they listen to because it's different. The second a band starts getting recognized even a little, they instantly hate it... and in some cases will deny they ever liked them.

I am a Metalhead, but I'm not like that. lol. I recognize good music, regardless of how popular it is.

And... Meshuggah is amazing.

Specifically I can't hear any hardcore elements in either Trivium or Shadows Fall. It just isn't really there, the riffing meanders between melodeath and thrash (both done horribly poorly at that) but not quite hardcore outside of the slight hardcore influence in the thrash parts. To some extent I think Trivium have more in common (see practically ripped off) Metallica or maybe even Biohazard than hardcore.

Yeah, inside metal circles Meshuggah can be pretty hated on. Actually, they're usually frowned upon by metal elitists. I'm really apathetic towarRAB them. Never picked up obZen but i might in a while

If you want to hear extreme music, listen to Meshuggah's "Nothing". At this point in there career, they had purged all the thrash from "Destroy Erase Improve" and produced one of the most sonically assaulting recorRAB ever created. The rhythm is in large part created by excessively loud distorted guitar noise interrupted by silence. Shadow Falls is simply tried and true metalcore...if you heard one band, you've heard them all.

Isn't that the one that's just one long song? I could definitely see how that could get boring. Nothing is great album by them though. Lots of good skewed grooves on that one. It's like the kind of music Fela Kuti would have made if he had a metal band.
