Say a future sailor manages to pass all their initial tests at basic and makes E-2.
Can they additionally make meritorious advancement to E-3 during basic? Or are recruits only allowed to make rank up once during boot camp?
I've heard of some guys who "made" E-3 in basic and later found out they were listed as E-2. They were never actually promoted, on the basis that you can't make rank up more than once during basic.

@Zendor: When I said "initial tests", I was referring to the DEP testing and PFA, sorry for not being more specific! I know I can pass those and make E-2, haha. But thank you! That last paragraph was exactly the answer I was looking for.
