Mercury Topaz ran fine and suddenly one day it started lose power. Got it back home but had to drive in 1st gear the whole way and it would jerk the car. The engine would rev up like it was getting gas and then let off, then rev up and let off, and repeat. Got the car back and it started but wouldn't stay running. Now won't start at all. Got it to start for a split second the other day after letting the fuel pump run before starting. Fuel comes out of the fuel filter, so it's not clogged. Has good fuel pressure. Cut the convertor off thinking it might have been clogged, but did no good. Spark plugs are good. Thinking it might be the fuel lines from the filter to then engine, but I do not know how to take them off. Can anyone tell me how to? or tell me if there is any other reasons why it's doing this?
