Back in October I became very overwhelmed with depression and anxiety that I was forced to go to my doctor, whom signed me off for a month and put me on a course of antidepressants. Prior to this I had been having a very rough time at work due to my depression (with no prior time off and staff noticing the obviously change in me, crying on shop floor for no reason, being rude to staff without reason and my general angry and sullen behaviour, which is the complete opposite to my usual behaviour) and used facebook to vent my frustration ( stupid now I know) I wasn't in my right mind at the time, and was very sick, with suicidal thoughts and very self destructive behaviour.
After I'd taken the month off sick, I returned back to work only to be told that I was to have an immediate 'informal meeting' about my attendance. I explained how sick I was and that the doctor hadn't deemed me fit to work. During the course of this meeting I was visibly upset and shaken. I left the room and was called back 5 minutes later and told they would be forced to take dissaplinary action. Obviously this upset me terribly as I was being punished for trying to recover from this illness, not just having time off to piss about. (Excuse my french)
The next week I was called into another 'informal meeting' and was told it was concerning the message I posted on my facebook. This message was seen as gross misconduct and I would be likely sacked from my job. I was extremely upset, had a panic attack but was forced to carry on the meeting. I was obviously not of sound mind at the time, and was still in the grip of my depression.
They then persuaded me that the best thing they could advise me to do, and what they would do in my position, is to hand my notice in because at least it would say I was sacked from the job or given a dissaplinary on my reference ( which I've now learnt is just a general reference and doesn't include anything other than my attendance record which is poor anyway due to
