Memory card, not working on Sony Ericsson Xperia x1?

Hey, I have a Nokia micro sd memory card(1 gig), which im trying to use on my Sony Ericsson xperia x1. When I check the memory on the phone, for storage card it says- Storage card not installed. The memory card is brand new. I was wondering whether I had to activate or install something for it to work.
