I finally got around to reading the novel Memoirs of a Geisha. I have had it on my bookshelf for a few years now, and finally picked it up. I simply could not put it down! I thought the book was well written and captivating. Honestly, one of the best books I have read in a really long time.
So, yesterday morning I was in the grocery store and saw the movie Memoirs of a Geisha on the shelf by the checkout for $9. Having just finished the book, I thought it might be fun to see the film. Once the kids were in bed, I popped it in and watched it.
Did anyone else think that the filmmakers, the director, the screenplay writer/adapter etc. totally miss the ENTIRE point of the book? I thought the movie SUCKED and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Hardly anything in the movie was accurate-- well, it was set in Kyoto, Japan, and the names were the same, but after that, it was pretty unrecognizable.
Am I alone on this?
