Meditation - this happened, is this normal?

I am just beginning to practice meditation, I have been at it for about 2 weeks now. When I first started doing it, couple days in I had an expirience.

As I was meditating, I was sitting down with my eyes closed facing a wall. After a while sitting there I opened my eyes and I had this weird feeling. The wall for a second looked different but the most memorable thing was how it was such a rush! It felt good really, I have never felt anything like it, so, is this something that people expirience when they meditate?

One thing I didn't really understand about using zen meditation was the concept of "understanding" or "enlightenment". Maybe what I went through was probably one of the two? If it was then would I have to meditate longer to achieve this again, and will my enlightenment feel "greater" the more I do it?

**Sorry if too many questions, all answers appreciated, thanks!
Thank you for answers, also: I like my environment free of distractions, no bright lights, sounds, etc. As I actually do know where I stand, (Father with Me and In Me): where do you stand? Do you believe in the God that made the Big Bang or the God that created the earth, how many years ago? I assure you, one of those Gods are not in your "sacred bible".

Again, thank you for those with contructive posts!
Sorry, name spelling*
