Medicines you are taking

I'm glad I found this board. It gives me much comfort knowing I'm not alone. Although my husband sympathizes with me, it is difficult to explain to anyone how this constant burning interrupts your entire life. I teach, and it is very difficult on some days to keep that happy smile with the students.

I've been suffering with Acid Reflux for more years than I can count. And though I feel lucky that my story is not near as bad as some of yours, I get so discouraged when after months of some control the breakthrough heartburn and nausea returns with a vengence. Everyday I wake up hoping it has gone away again for a while.

I was wondering what medicines you are taking to cope. Sometimes I feel like that's all I do is pop one more pill just to make it through another hour. At first I thought Gaviscon tasted horrible -- now I don't mind their taste at all.

I'm on

Nexium - 40 mg. a day
Gavison - whenever
Zantac - 300 or more mg. a day
Prilosec - just because I was hoping it would work

Also, does anyone else find this is seasonal for them? I can almost count on this happening every Oct. or Nov. then subsiding for a while and then back again in March or April.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

SounRAB like it could be allergies. My GI doctor actually sent me for allergy testing when the endoscopy, 24 hr pH test and manometry did not show signs of reflux. The allergist tested for the most common allergans, like pollen, ragweed, cat hair, dog hair, mould. I think there were 15 in all. In my case, I didn't show any allergic reaction, so I'm back to the ENT now.

OMG...I am only on 40mg of Zegerid; however, I think some people here have it wayyy worse than me.

I have LPR and my Dr. (the newest one) said I might as well not be taking anything. I was (and have been told forever) taking 2 40 mg Nexium twice a day. Like you, I was sipping on Mylanta instead of Gavison, although I did that one too off and on. Even added the Zantac at bedtime. I was diagnosed with GERD/LPR over 10 yrs ago and in the beginning I took Prevacid, Reglan and Carafate. This did get my stomach better but I can't keep the LPR in control. I'm looking into surgery at this point but so far these test have came back looking good! I went thru the allergy/asthma route and took shots for 3 yrs and last test were ok, but I can't tell any difference actually. I used to not get heartburn but since I stopped the Nexium it's been B-A-D sometimes. I honestly don't see how those that teach and work with the public do it when in a bad flare. Oh, I do seem to have worse flares at times of the year than others but it can be 100% or 20 below so I would assume that would knock out being allergy related? My voice has been a big problem with me along with the sniffling and chronic cough making me think it could be allergies yet my test were fine? I hope you get to feeling better soon. It's so frustrating not to know how you are going to feel when you wake up in the morn. I usually don't have any symptoms during sleep but woke up with acid all in my throat one night this week!

I took can usually make it through the night, but the minute I wake up, I know if it is going to be a good day or not. Today, seems to be one of my better days. Surprisingly, fruit flavored gum does help sometimes.

I have an endoscopy scheduled for Nov. 7, going for the blood work, etc. this coming Tuesday. This is my 2nd endo this year, but I've had them every year or every other year in the past. All of them have come back normal, but I guess it's more of a comfort knowing what's there.

Thanks to all that answered. And I wish you all the best. I'll let you know what the endo reveals.

Prevacid 30mg am and pm
Zantac 300 mg before bed
Rolaid soft chews as needed (quite tasty)
