I had a myelogram in January and I didn't get any medication prior to the procedure, but I really wouldn't have needed any. The procedure itself really isn't that bad at all.
I did end up getting a spinal headache for a few days afterwarRAB and that wasn't very fun at all. My discharge instructions said to stay elevated at 20-30 degrees so I spent my time in a recliner. Two days after the procedure when I couldn't keep anything down and had the worst headache of my life I called my neurosurgeon who ordered the procedure. He said that you should lie completely flat after the procedure and recommended that I lay flat in bed for several days with my head on a pillow. My nausea and headache subsided very slowly and I didn't need to get a blood patch as some people do.
no, not typically. They do not want you to move inadvertantly during the procedure since they are injecting the dye into your spinal cord. It could be disastrous if you do move, so they want you awake and listening to whatever they say.
