Medicare -- how many strikes till I'm out?

I'm shopping for a Medicare M.D. I saw one but didn't like him; now I have an appointment with another. If I reject a few more, and Medicare gets billed for several 'initial / new patient' appointments, will I get in trouble with Medicare?

I'm trying to find out about each doctor's attitude before I make the appointment, but it's difficult to find out much, as I'm new in town and don't know many people. I looked in a 'wellness directory' at the health food co-op and am asking around in the health food channels and asked a chiropractor, but still I'm in the dark.

I want a high-tech diagnosis but don't want prescription drugs.

You won't get in trouble with Medicare.

Call or check the websites of your local hospitals, they can give you info on doctors like where they went to school, what extra training they have, their medical interests, etc.

I'd suggest you take every opportunity to chat with office staff, local hospital or clinic staff. Just talking with receptionists and/or nurses can get you all the information you'll need to make a choice - before you make the appointment.
