Medical school and relationships.?

My boyfriend will be going to medical school next year to be a neurosurgeon. I'm so happy for him and very proud because he's a very smart guy and always works hard for what he wants. My problem is, my friend is an obstetrician and I know about all the time you put into Medical school and how it affects relationships. We have a awesome relationship...but has it is right now, he studies so much, I hardly spend time with him. I obviously wouldn't leave him over this (I love him very much), but I would like to know what I need to be prepared for in the future.
