OK, so I'm currently a senior in high school and I'm planning on studying medicine here in Mexico.
That would mean that as soon as I graduate from high school I'd go straight into med school, which is broken down into: 2 years of being at the university, 2 years doing rotations in all medical specialties, 1 year internship, 1 year social service.
Finishing that I'd like to go to the states (USA to avoid any confusion) to specialise as a surgeon of some kind, so far I'm thinking neuro, onco, plastics, something like that.
I'm planning to start studying for the USMLE Step Exams (1, 2 and 3) while I'm in med school, since I know I'll have to pass them in order to go to the US after I finish med school.
Could someone please explain what else I'd have to do in more detail please (like when I should start studying for the STEP exams, when should I do them, when should I start looking into US residencies, when should I start to definitely make up my mind as to what surgical specialty I should go for, etc.)?
Thanks
