windows setup? This morning when I tried to restart my pc it coudn't get to the desktop.
As soon as I see "Windows XP" then the pc would restart again....this process kept on repeating without being able to get to the desktop.

Then I finally received these messages:
1. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
/windows\system32\config\system

2. You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM.
Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.

I've decided to do system recovery and windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM.

When I started to do system recovery and windows setup then I received the following message:

"Media test failure, check cable"

Please advise, thank you in advance for your help.

sounds like either your cable connecting to your hard drive is loose, or the back of the hard drive is faulty. Check both, make sure they are securely fastened, maybe unplug then plug it in again. Also check the cable to the cd-rom drive.
