media assignment - can somebody make this a bit more clear for me?

"choose four programmes that you feel have different target audiences and carry out some research into them. you can do this using the internet or any published media. then write a report comparing the programmes and their audiences"

the thing is I'm not sure what they mean with that it would be really helpful if somebody could elaberate for me.
 
from the spelling of 'programmes' and the fact that you're on a media course, I would suggest that the assignment is referring to television programmes, not computer programs.

Its basically asking you to pick four unrelated tv shows, then show that you understand the differences and similarities between their demographics.

Why would you be asked to write a report on computer programs?

Everyone who buys photoshop buys it for image creation and manipulation, same as everyone who buys coda buys it for programming.
