my husband wants to try this because the gear thing on the steering wheel will not shift gears but he can change them under the hood manually. since he only knows a few things here and there mechanically and is not a mechanic, any advise on what do do, how to do, where to do, etc. i could tell him i found out on the computer would be helpful. I just want my car to shift gears again so I can drive my young children around safely and not go under the hood to put it into drive with the parking brake on. Please any and all mechanical advise on the replacement of a shifter cable would be truly appreciated.
thank you all for reading.

It's pretty simple to replace one. But first make sure it's broken and not just out of adjustment. Have your husband take the knee bolster off from under the column and then access to remove the steering column cover screws can be removed. Then you should be able to see the shift linkage. If it is broken, get a new one, remove the old one off of the shift lever and follow it through the firewall. Pay special note to it's routing. Connect the new one to the steering column and run the other through the fire wall. Then down to the transmission. Remove the other end of the old one and clip on the new.
