Me and my friend have a debate to settle help us?

Ok my friend likes to say ideal as in I have a great ideal
I like to say idea as in I have a great idea

What it the proper use of a sentence like that is it with ideal or idea or does it really matter?

Idea and Ideal are two different words. The proper use is I have a great idea. Ideal is used in reference to concepts. Ex: The setting is ideal.

Ideal is used in a sentence like: I have a more ideal idea for a movie
Not : I HAVE AN AMAZING IDEAL.

So you're right.

it's "i have a great idea" ideal means a conception of something in its perfection. ideal would be used as " here is your room. i know it's not ideal, but it should do."
