Mazda RX-8 big enough for family car?

I'm going to trade my 4 door olds alero within the next couple months and am looking at possible vehicles to get. I have a 3 year old, so I need something that will be family friendly. Does the Maxda RX-8 have enough room to be a family car? Also anyone have any suggestions for vehicles that would be family friendly that aren't completely boring I would greatly appreciate your input. I'm looking to spend under $20,000.
 
Neigh on the RX-8. Gets crap mileage, has tiny back seats, isn't the most reliable, and its rear-wheel drive (may not matter if you live in a warm climate).

Family car that isn't boring, for under $20k... Hmmmmmm, Subaru Legacy GT (or Subie WRX if you want a smaller car), MazdaSpeed6 (I believe there were a few recalls on these that you would want to make sure were done), Honda Accord Coupe if you can stand a 2-door, 4-door VW GTI. All of these would have to be used mind you.

Honestly, stay away from the American brands and Toyotas, and you should be able to find something relatively fun.
